Picture Ninth Avenue as a dirt road and instead of valet parking a hitching post stands in front of the Palliser Hotel. The year is 1911 and the Women’s Canadian Club of Calgary is formed. Nellie McClung, a member of the Famous Five, was a regular speaker at the Club. The Women’s Canadian Club of Calgary was established to provide women with the opportunity to stay informed about various local and national topics. As we head into our 111th year, we are proud to say our club is still upholding the strong foundation that the women of 1911 started and for which we are most grateful. They created a platform which still attracts distinguished speakers who inform our members about Canada’s current issues and celebrate our achievements.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Mrs. Pankhurst spoke about the war at a luncheon that also included Nellie McClung, one of the Famous 5 who fought for women’s rights. She was a Canadian author, social activist, suffragette and politician.
