Historian, Legacy of Calgary General Hospital. Tickets on sale until March 30.
Deb Lee spent her formative years in Manitoba and came to Alberta in 1975, arriving in Calgary in 1982. Deb worked as a registered nurse and her career spanned hospital work in three different provinces, education at Foothills Hospital, administration at the Fanning Centre and stints in the Canadian north, a refugee camp in southeast Asia and as a school nurse. Her later years of employment were spent in Seniors Health and Home Care where she came to appreciate the role of a strong and caring community more fully in supporting the successful ageing of older adults. She is a 28+ year resident of Bridgeland Riverside. After a 40 year career in Nursing – as a front-line nurse, educator, director of care and clinical nurse. After her retirement, Deb has spent much time writing and working within the community of Bridgeland.
October 4, 2023, marked 25 years since the implosion of the Calgary General Hospital. Perhaps you were born there, or were a patient or did you work there? The Calgary General Hospital was the primary centre for health care in our city for many decades. Deb Lee will tell us about the 108-year history of the CGH and how the community worked to regain community spirit after this historical building closed and how they keep the story of the ‘The General’ alive.
