Will Ferguson is an award-winning Canadian author, novelist, travel writer, and humourist. Born in Fort Vermilion, Alberta, in 1964, he grew up in a large family of storytellers and developed an early love of writing. He studied film production and screenwriting at York University and later spent five years living and travelling in Asia while teaching in Japan.
Ferguson is the author of numerous books, including Hitching Rides with Buddha, Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw, Beyond Belfast, and 419. His 2012 novel 419, a literary thriller about the global consequences of an internet scam, won the prestigious Scotiabank Giller Prize. He has also won the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour three times and the 2021 Arthur Ellis Award for Crime Fiction for The Finder.
Much of Ferguson’s writing explores travel, Canadian history, identity, and the human stories behind places and events. His work has taken him around the world, but Alberta remains a central influence on his writing. He lives in Calgary with his family and continues to write fiction, travel literature, essays, and works about Canada.
