The Women's Canadian Club - since 1911
Picture Ninth Avenue as a dirt road and instead of valet parking a hitching post stands in front of the Palliser Hotel. The year is 1911 and the Women’s Canadian Club of Calgary is formed. Nellie McClung, a member of the Famous Five, was a regular speaker at the Club. The Women’s Canadian Club of Calgary was established to provide women with the opportunity to stay informed about various local and national topics. As we head into our 115th year, we are proud to say our club is still upholding the strong foundation that the women of 1911 started and for which we are most grateful. They created a platform which still attracts distinguished speakers who inform our members about Canada’s current issues and celebrate our achievements.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Mrs. Pankhurst spoke about the war at a luncheon that also included Nellie McClung, one of the Famous 5 who fought for women’s rights. She was a Canadian author, social activist, suffragette and politician.

Stanley Burke - 1968
Stanley Burke, Jr. (February 8, 1923 – May 28, 2016) was a Canadian television journalist. He was the anchor of CBC Television's The National News from 1966 to 1969. The show was renamed The National after he resigned to launch a public campaign on the Biafran civil war.
Jean Cretien - October 1981
Jean Chretien was a lawyer, author, politician Lawyer, author, politician, and long time parliamentarian Jean Chrétien was Canada’s 20th prime minister. Early in his political career, Chrétien helped negotiate the patriation of the Canadian constitution as well as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In 1981 he was the Canadian Justice Minister.
Ralph Klein - 1990
Ralph Klein was a Canadian politician who served as the 12th Premier of Alberta and leader of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta from 1992 until his retirement in 2006. He also served as mayor of Calgary.

March 1989 - Marg Southern
Marg Southern is a Canadian businesswoman, and co-founder of the Spruce Meadows equestrian park. She was also the first female physical education teacher on the campus of the University of Calgary in 1953.
Patrick Watson
Patrick Watson was a prolific and outspoken Canadian broadcaster, television and radio interviewer and host, author, commentator, and television writer, producer, and director for five decades. He spoke at the 80th Anniversary luncheon in 1991.
